Terms of Use
Effective date: September 25, 2026
These terms govern your use of Firstlight — New Tab Dashboard ("Firstlight", "the extension", "we"), a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that replaces the New Tab page with a customizable widget dashboard. By installing or using the extension, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use the extension.
The service
Firstlight is provided free of charge. It runs entirely in your browser: there are no accounts, no servers of ours, and no paid features. Because there is no backend, there is nothing to subscribe to and nothing to cancel — uninstalling the extension ends your use of it.
License
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the extension for your own personal, non-commercial or internal business use. You may not:
- sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute the extension as your own;
- remove or alter its branding and pass it off as a different product;
- use the extension in any way that violates applicable law or the rights of others.
Your content
Anything you create in the extension — to-do items, notes, habit history, layout, settings — is yours and stays in your browser's storage, as described in the privacy policy. We claim no rights over it and, having no servers, never receive a copy of it. You are responsible for what you store and for backing up anything you cannot afford to lose; uninstalling the extension deletes its local data.
Google services (optional)
Some widgets can optionally connect to your Google account to display your own Calendar and Tasks data (in Chrome only); the Gmail widget instead reads Google's unread-mail feed using the Gmail session already in your browser, with no account sign-in. Your use of those Google services remains governed by Google's own terms and policies. You can disconnect at any time from the widget settings or at myaccount.google.com/permissions. How this data is handled is described in the privacy policy.
Third-party services and content
Some widgets fetch content from third-party services (for example weather from Open-Meteo, crypto prices from CoinGecko, background photos, quotes, search suggestions, and RSS feeds you add). We do not control these services or the content they return, do not endorse it, and are not responsible for its accuracy, availability, or legality. Any third-party service may change or stop working at any time, which can affect the widgets that depend on it. Feeds and URLs you add yourself are your responsibility.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use the extension to infringe others' rights or to attempt to disrupt, overload, or abuse the third-party services it connects to, and not to reverse the extension's protections to misrepresent it or its origin.
Updates and changes
The extension may update automatically through the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons (addons.mozilla.org). We may add, change, or remove features at any time, and we may discontinue the extension entirely. Because your data lives in your own browser, discontinuation would not delete anything you have already stored.
Disclaimer of warranties
The extension is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the extension will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data displayed by widgets (such as weather, headlines, or calendar events) is accurate or current. Do not rely on the extension for anything where an error or outage could cause harm.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages — including loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of use — arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the extension. To the extent any liability cannot be excluded, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the extension, which is zero.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limitations, so parts of the two sections above may not apply to you.
Termination
You may stop using the extension at any time by uninstalling it. We may terminate or suspend this license if you breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (your content, disclaimers, limitation of liability) survive termination.
Changes to these terms
These terms are published at https://firstlight-extension.site/terms.html. If they change, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Continuing to use the extension after a change means you accept the updated terms.
